Lakes and Forests - Hotels.
A lovely gentle wobble through the Breton countryside. Few hills, short distances, very quiet roads all make it a very easy introduction to cycling in Brittany.
Saturday - arrival and a very gentle ride to Bon Repos - 3kms on the canal towpath...
Day 1 - 13 kms
This ride takes you along the old 'Route de Petit Train' - the old railway line converted to cyclepath - to Mur De Bretagne, then a sweep downhill to the canal towpath where you'll find the Chambres D'Hotes at Le Pont Guern where the owner will produce a wonderful evening meal and you can relax next to the canal. .
Day 2 - 20 kms
Another wobble along the canal to Pontivy - the towpath getting you right into the centre without any dicing with traffic. The Hotel de L'Europe which is simply gorgeous a converted Napoleonic townhouse complete with magnificent wood panelling and staircases.
Day 3 - 0 kms
The Napoleonic town of Pontivy - bustling, huge Chateaux, great centre with bars to sit outside in the sun, wonderful restaurants (a great Vietnamese one!) and if you fancy a ride, the towpath South to St Nicolas Des Eaux is beautiful.
Day 4 - 30kms
The longest day... But the good news is that it is entirely on the canal towpath, and some of the prettiest sections of locks to be found in France. All the way to Rohan and the Chambres D'Hotes of Mme Le Pottier - the interior of this small manor house is all her own work, furnished and decorated with the most wonderful antiques these are the prettiest rooms of any of the accommodation we use. Three restaurants are within easy walking distance.
Day 5 - 15 kms
The one ride on public roads (apart from the short 'hop' on day 1) - after 5 kms on the canal you get to use the gears on your bike for the first time with a couple of longinsh but well graded hills - passing through little villages and gently rolling farmland you come to the village of St Caradec and yet another charming Chambres D'Hotes.
Day 6 - 15 kms
An easy ride down the converted rail-track with views over the 'Lac de Guerledan' and if last night was a beautiful setting, tonight - a hotel set next to the lake where you can watch the sun go down over the water (excellent restaurat too...).
Day 7 Saturday - 8 kms
A very short (but steep) climb back to the cyclepath and then swooping back to us at Gouarec.
