Taste of Brittany - Hotels

Please click here to view Taste of Brittany in a larger map complete with pictures, street view etc. Please note that the because of the limitations of Google Maps this route cannot be 100% accurate but will give you a rough idea:-)

This is a really lovely ride through the unspoilt heartland of Brittany, immune to the vaguaries of the tourist season and always beautiful - it also features some of the most varied and delicious restaurant choices of any or our tours. Much of the route is on quiet country lanes and the canal towpath. The distances are pretty moderate although the route is generally one of the more hilly ones, but don't let that put you off as you will surely need to burn off calories...

Route plan.

First night (Saturday) spent at the hotel at Bon Repos - (or if full, at Rostrenen).

Day 1 (Sunday)- 40 kms

After taking in the market at Bon Repos an easy and very quiet ride to take you to the town of Callac, and the Relais de Basque, run by a real Basque couple who will provide you with real Basque food!.

Day 2 - 30 kms

Today takes you through the Foret de Beffou and Foret d'Ambroise and into the Parc de L'Armorique where you'll stay overlooking the lake at Hoelgoat (and the Hotel du Lac).

Day 3 - 43 kms

This day takes you through several little villages (with lunchtime restaurants) and all the way to to Belle-isle-en-Terre, a village set on the river and who's hotel does wonderful meals especially the 'amuse gueule' prior to the meal!

Day 4 - 0 kms

A day off to explore the surrounding area - Gorges, the little market town and much besides. It also lets you eat for a second time at the hotel if you can manage it:-)

Day 5 - 45 kms

Probably the longest and hardest day, but at the end of it a wonderful place to stay in the walled market town of Quintin. This is the one night where the 'hotel' (a chambre D'Hotes with the most amazing rooms!) doens't provide evening meals. However the town has a reange of several restaurants, so for once you can explore and take your choice.

Day 6 - 37 kms

More lovely countryside (you'll be longing to see a power station by now) that brings you to the old railway cyclepath and onto the 'Hotel du Lac' at Caurel - overlooking the huge Lac de Guerledan. Though the hotel does very good food, so does the restaurant opposite - a tiny and very friendly little place where we've had many a fine meal. The lakeside with it's beach, restaurants and boat hire is just a km below the hotel.

Day 7 (Saturday) - 15kms

A quick dash down the railway path and then canal tow-path for about an hour or so to bring you back to base.
