Getting to, and getting around in France...

Much of the information for getting to France can be found here - but to be honest there is such a bewildering array of methods of getting here and all depend on when you come and from where a definitive article is impossible. Flying can be stupidly cheap but dial in the cost of carrying your bike and gear and it may turn out to be cheaper to come on a Breton Bikes holiday! The ferry doesn't charge much for a bike so personally that would be my choice if time wasn't tight, though that doesn't help those coming from outside the British Isles.

Travelling inside France is another matter. The train network is extensive, however not all trains will take bikes, often they insist on them being in a bike bag and you really need to check all of them first – see - http://www.voyages-sncf.co.uk/ . The other option is bus services and there are very regional so you need to do some net research and they vary greatly in their cycle-friendliness (officially). However coaches have a lot of luggage space and if you are very friendly to the driver the vast majority will be happy to slide your bike carefully into the luggage department.

A Small Favour

We hope you've enjoyed reading this short article and will go on to read many more. This website exists both as an information hub for cyclists – (and we offer free advice by email) - but also as a commercial site to sell our cycling holidays. For 27 years we've been the only company in the world offering fully equipped cycle camping holidays and now also offer hotel based holiday and even run our local campsite which is uniquely well geared up for passing cycletourists.

If you like what we do and want us to continue please help by sharing our Facebook page, telling your friends or linking to www.bretonbikes.com on any site you run. Without your support we'd not be here...
